Sur cette nouvelle saison la Saru a décidé d'étendre les possibilitées de vidéo arbitrage aux fautes (en avant, placages etc) ainsi qu'aux coups de pieds.
A voir si ça ne hache pas trop le jeu.

Expansion of TMO to be trialled in Absa Currie Cup
Proposals to extend the powers of television match officials (TMOs) will be trialled in this year's Absa Currie Cup, which kicks off later on Friday with the first of four matches in the new, eight-team Absa First Division.
The trials will, amongst other things, allow referees to consult TMOs about incidents of foul play or infringements such as knock-ons and forward passes that might have occurred anywhere on the field in the build-up to a try being scored.
“The International Rugby Board (IRB) recently gave SARU dispensation to trial the extension of the TMO Protocol and we are very excited to try them out,” said the SARU GM: Referees, André Watson. “Referrals can now go back to the previous restart, i.e. penalty kick, free kick, lineout, scrum, kick-off, but not further back than two rucks or mauls. That means numerous tackles may occur.”
Watson said the trials would also allow on-field match officials to use stadium screens to decide on matters, while TMOs would have the power to inform referees of “incidents and issues” over and above those usually requested when trying to determine whether or not a try had been scored.
The full TMO trials are as follows:
TMO may be referred to as per the current application as well as:
1. When match officials are unsure whether foul play has occurred anywhere on the field or in-goal.
2. When match officials believe there may have been an infringement by the team that scored a try or touched down.
3. When match officials believe a try or touch-down was prevented by an infringement.
4. To confirm the success or otherwise of kicks at goal.
Infringements listed by the IRB include:
• Knock-on
• Forward pass
• Player in touch
• Off-side
• Obstruction
• Tackling a player without the ball
• Foul play
• Double movement in act of scoring
How does TMO adjudicate?
• Only on the clear and obvious – there must be no doubt
• If it is not clear, the TMO is to advise it did not happen or there is no clear evidence it happened.
• TMO to advise on the infringement, the recommended sanction and where play is to restart.
TMOs can be advised on infringements by the team that scored or touched down, as well as if a try has been prevented from being scored:
• Penalty tries may be recommended
• If there is doubt as to whether the try would have been scored the TMO must then advise the appropriate sanction.
If foul play is referred, the TMO is to make recommendations as to the appropriate sanctions.

The Sharks will mix experience with youth in this year’s Absa Currie Cup campaign, as they face the annual exodus of players to the Springbok cause for the four team Castle Rugby Championship.
With 10 players now with the Springboks, Fred Michalak having returned to France and Ryan Kankowski spending the rest of the year playing club rugby in Japan, a 28 man Sharks squad has been named to do battle in South Africa’s premier domestic competition. The Currie Cup tournament kicks off with an away game against Western Province this weekend with the first home game at Mr Price KINGS PARK taking place against the Lions next weekend.
There are some Sharks stalwarts to guide the youngsters, three Springboks and a number of veterans of many campaigns who will provide experienced heads around the exuberance of youth.
For the youngsters picked to play this season, this presents an opportunity to stake a claim for long term inclusion and a shot at Super Rugby and beyond, which each year throws out a couple of players that can be added to The Sharks stocks.
While the Currie Cup provides the breeding ground for future stars, it also issues up a challenge to the participating teams, a challenge The Sharks will gladly accept.

TWO World Cup-winning Springboks will run out for the MTN Golden Lions when they Johannesburg side opens the defence of their Absa Currie Cup title on Saturday against the Toyota Free State Cheetahs at Coca-Cola Park.
The country's premier domestic competition, which has been reduced to six teams this year, gets underway on Friday night when the Vodacom Blue Bulls host GWK Griquas as Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.
The weekend's action is rounded off at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday night when DHL Western Province are at home to last year's beaten finalists, the Sharks.
2007 World Cup flyhalf Butch James will start in the No 10 jersey for the MTN Lions and his former Bok team-mate CJ van der Linde is named on the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury, while another ex-Bok, Waylon Murray, will play centre after regaining full fitness following a long injury lay-off.
Meanwhile, IRB Junior World Championship-winning wing Raymond Rhule will start at left wing for the Toyota Cheetahs after playing a pivotal role in helping the Junior Springboks win the U20 world title earlier this year. The Free Staters are captained by centre Robert Ebersohn, while an intriguing selection is that of Springbok Sevens ace Boom Prinsloo in the No 6 jersey in the place of the injured Heinrich Brussow.
The Sharks will boast five Springboks in their ranks for their Round 1 clash with DHL Western Province at Newlands, with wing Odwa Ndungane, flanker and newly-elected skipper Jean Deysel, flyhalf Riaan Viljoen and centre Meyer Bosman starting and centre Marius Joubert named on the bench.
Meanwhile, DHL WP coach Allister Coetzee has handed the captaincy reins to hooker Deon Fourie, who moves to the side of the scrum for their match against the Sharks after spending the latter stages of the Vodacom Super Rugby competition at eighthman. Fourie leads an inexperienced team with nine players making their Currie Cup debuts for Western Province.
Former Springbok flanker Dewald Potgieter will an equally inexperienced Vodacom Blue Bulls side out onto the field to kick off the 2012 competition when they host the GWK Griquas at Loftus Versfeld on Friday night. Coach Pine Pienaar has named three rookies in the form of Ulrich Beyers, Clayton Blommetjies and Cornell Hess to start their first Currie Cup match, with a further four uncapped players on the bench.
And Griquas have named a new-look side including the exciting Willie le Roux at fullback, after the former Bolander excelled for the Cheetahs in the recent Vodacom Super Rugby competition on the wing. There are also welcome returns for former Sharks wing Luzuko Vulindlu and centre JP Nel, who forms a combative centre combination with another former Blue Bull in the form of Stefan Watermeyer.
